Do opponents of civil liberties (such as ACPO’s Ken Jones) have the guts to debate David Davis?
Read my post on the subject here.

Guido reports No 35%, Yes 30%, that is the current standing of the southern Irish referendum on the European Consitution.  A No vote is looking increasingly likely and is very good news for Ireland, Britain and Europe more widely.
Meanwhile, the leader of the Conservative MEPs Giles Chichester’s resignation is to be welcome, although it is questionable [...]

Labour Home has (perhaps unwisely) conducted a poll of the Labour grassroots, asking them to rank Cabinet Ministers.  Who comes at the bottom but Darling (3.35) and Brown (3.37 ).  The hapless Chancellor keeps the Prime Minister (by 0.02 percentage points) from the ultimate humiliation.
Ed Balls does slightly better (3.82) with Miliband (5.48 ) and Johnson [...]

Post election: what should Labour do now?

I was astounded to find the above survey on Labour Home, not by the results (which are not surprising if it is a councillor who has recently lost his/her seat, a disillusioned activist or a Labourite pounding the streets of Crewe), but by the fact they actually put the survey on [...]

Ordovicious has an interesting quote from the Grauniad showing the likely extent of the Labour losses.
This blog has been silent for the past few days due to intense election activity, with more to come in the next 2 days.
The next post should be some time on Friday.  Until then, with Labour trailing by between 14 - [...]

Now we hear that Alan Johnson has to pay back £1,675 that he took from a donor who was not even on the electoral register.  A simple check at the time would have showed this to be the case.
On the run up to local elections, with 26% in the polls, the last thing Labour needs is [...]

Is it any wonder that Red Ken says he’s independent?
Then why doesn’t he just run as an independent?  He might stand better chance of winning.
But then he would have to work, rather than having the massive London Labour machine (what’s left of it) campaigning on his behalf - like the poor young bloke who was [...]

This blogger has made no secret of his support for Boris in the London Mayoral election.
I am currently in London for a few days on business, staying near Piccadilly, and was out last night in Chinatown for a meal.  The vibrancy of the centre of London is remarkable and is a phenomenon rarely seen elsewhere [...]

Blogging will be light for the next few weeks as I will be away on business and helping in local elections in the West Midlands.  If I can get a mobile broadband modem sorted out, I might be able to access the blog a bit more often.
Charles Clarke,  who famously referred to Brown as having [...]

Bravo, Mr Hain

Respect to Peter Hain for doing the decent thing and resigning.  We wish him well in his new backbench role.
The question is: when will Alistair Darling, Wendy Alexander, et al resign over their recent “incompetences” (or “to clear their name”)?
