No one seems keen to address Labour’s holocaust on older people.
Having given up on the elderly, and focusing its attention on “floating voters in marginals” as well as soaking the workshy in benefits, Labour has allowed many older people to end up living in levels of poverty that even Dickens would have been shocked by, Channel 4’s Dispatches this week showed.
The choice between eating or heating, living in squalor, paid a paltry state pension, facing obscene energy and council tax bills, suffering ill-health as a result, denied care from their councils (who waste millions of money elsewhere), living without the dignity that they deserve.
The generation that beat Adolf Hitler in WWII is being neglected in a criminal – and murderous – fashion by the Labour Party. I was sickened by the way in which many older people have to live.Â
It is time for some thought to linking earnings to pensions (a policy once endorsed by both the Labour and Tory Party), to provide better levels of social care to older people, and to end pensioner poverty.
